Do You Know Current Air Pollution Levels?
Check air quality conditions before you go outside to help protect your health. Exposure to high air pollution levels can cause immediate and severe health issues including respiratory illness, heart and lung stress, and damaged respiratory cells. Some individuals are more vulnerable to the health impacts of air pollution, including children, pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with heart or lung conditions, such as asthma.

Mark your calendar for May 1, when the Sacramento region's Spare The Air Program will begin. From May 1 to October 31 each year, when the AQI is forecast to reach 126 or higher for ground-level ozone a Spare The Air alert is issued. On Spare The Air days, residents are asked to reduce their driving.

Air Quality Forecast and Weather Discussion
Thursday, sunny and hot conditions will persist as an upper-level ridge of high pressure remains over northern California. Additionally, light morning winds will lead to pollutant build-up in the Sacramento region. Therefore, despite light to moderate onshore winds dispersing pollutants in the afternoon, ozone levels will be Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. Friday, as an upper-level trough of low pressure passes through the Pacific Northwest, atmospheric mixing will improve slightly over the Sacramento region. However, sunny skies and temperatures near 100F will continue to support ozone formation, and light onshore winds through most of the day will inhibit pollutant dispersion. As a result, ozone levels will be high-Moderate. Saturday, sunny and hot conditions will continue to enhance ozone production through the Sacramento Valley. However, as surface high pressure moves across the Pacific Northwest, light to moderate north-northwesterly winds will develop in the Sacramento region, dispersing pollutants and leading to Moderate ozone levels.
