Do You Know Current Air Pollution Levels?
Check air quality conditions before you go outside to help protect your health. Exposure to high air pollution levels can cause immediate and severe health issues including respiratory illness, heart and lung stress, and damaged respiratory cells. Some individuals are more vulnerable to the health impacts of air pollution, including children, pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with heart or lung conditions, such as asthma.
Mark your calendar for May 1, when the Sacramento region's Spare The Air Program will begin. From May 1 to October 31 each year, when the AQI is forecast to reach 126 or higher for ground-level ozone a Spare The Air alert is issued. On Spare The Air days, residents are asked to reduce their driving.

Air Quality Forecast and Weather Discussion
Friday, light and variable winds will persist, leading to pollutant build-up in the Sacramento region. Additionally, morning and evening temperature inversions will confine pollutants in the lower levels of the atmosphere. Furthermore, fog and high humidity will continue to enhance particle formation. As a result, particle levels will be high-Moderate. Saturday, as a cold front impacts northern California, rain showers will enhance vertical mixing in the atmosphere, while light south-southeasterly winds will increase pollutant dispersion. However, these winds will also transport pollutants from the San Joaquin Valley into the Sacramento region. Therefore, particle levels will be mid-Moderate. Sunday, cooler air aloft will weaken the morning and evening temperature inversions, promoting atmospheric mixing. However, light and variable winds will limit dispersion in the Sacramento Valley throughout the day as a surface ridge of high pressure stretches across northern California. As a result, particle levels will be low-Moderate.
